Early morning armed robbery at Doncaster store

South Yorkshire Police have issued a public appeal following an armed robbery early this morning at a store in Doncaster.

Officers were called to the shop in Beckett Road, Wheatley at around 6.20am today following reports of an armed robbery.

There have been unconfirmed reports that a meat cleaver used in the attack has been found in a nearby alleyway.

Passers-by have reported a high level of police activity in the area throughout the morning.

Officers have cordoned off part of an alleyway in nearby Jubilee Road.

At present, it is unclear whether anyone was injured in the incident.

A South Yorkshire Police spokesperson said:

“The caller reported that a man entered the store and demanded money from the till while brandishing a weapon.

“Enquiries are on-going and anyone with information is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 176 of 21 May 2020.”
