Local man still missing four months later

A local man who went missing in January has still not been found four months later.

Some time after 3am on January 29, John Davis, 56, of North Cotes, sent his final text to his brother, Geoffrey.

John was reported missing the same day after he left his fathers house near Tetney Lock.

This was followed by a full search which lasted weeks, after his was found in the Hartwell Ford area of Grimsby.

He was also sighted numerous times around Grimsby.

John was said to be in a “really bad state” prior to his disappearance.

Police also searched nearby fields, including those alongside the A16.

But months later, John is yet to be found.

In February, John Davis’ family issued a public appeal, in which his brother Geoffrey said:

“Normally when John knocks on my door, there’s something wrong.

“In the past it had been because relationships have ended with girlfriends or something like that.

“When Gayle first answered the door we thought it was about our father being unwell or something.

“When he turned up on the Friday, however, he was in a really bad state, saying ‘I can’t go on’ and so on.

“He said he didn’t feel safe at home anymore and was asking for our sister’s address in Tewkesbury.

“He said he was too scared to live in his house, I have never seen him so scared before.

“He thought he had a man living in his loft and that the people at work were out to get him.”

He added:

“Is he staying somewhere else? If not, how is he eating? Has he travelled away from the area to a place that doesn’t know he is missing?

“There’s just so many unanswered questions. He doesn’t have access to money because his card has been stopped, he doesn’t have his car anymore, and I think he’s turned his phone off because I can’t contact him.

“Police have said a lot of time and effort has been put in, and I believe it. I think they have put a lot of time into it , but they can’t keep looking for him forever. I just don’t want him to be another statistic.”

Despite his state of mind when he went missing, Lincolnshire Police have re-graded John as a ‘low-risk’ missing person.

He is also still listed as missing by Humberside Police, and the search is ongoing.

Earlier this year, a spokesperson for Lincolnshire Police said

“Officers believe that John may have changed his hairstyle since his disappearance.

“Please report any possible sightings of John to us.”

Anyone with information on John’s whereabouts, or with information that could assist Lincolnshire Police with their investigation, should call 101 quoting reference number 175 30/1/2020.
