Pubs could reopen from June 22 says Government report

A report published by the UK Government has suggested that pubs could reopen in England from June 22.

Previously, Downing Street and Prime Minister Boris Johnson said that the hospitality sector – pubs, restaurants, etc. – would be the last to reopen, and that we should not expect this until at least July or later.

But now, plans that could see pubs across England reopen on June 22 are being considered.

Whitehall insiders told the Financial Times that June 22 is the target date.

The hospitality sector has said that if pubs don’t reopen soon then many could close for good.

This would see as many as 3.5million jobs lost.

It is expected that this would also pave the way for reopening all cafes and restaurants.

Pubs with outdoor areas could be first to reopen, as coronavirus spreads faster indoors.

Pub and restaurant owners have warned that the current two-metre distancing rule will make it unviable for many businesses to reopen their indoor facilities.

What do you think? Is it too soon for pubs to reopen?
