Further advice on keeping children safe.
As lockdowns begin to ease and children return to school across our region, Ansaf Azhar, the Director of Public Health, has today asked schools to distribute a letter to parents in Oxforshire, asking them to remain alert when it comes to coronavirus safety measures.
The letter, dated 15 June 2020, opens with a thank you directed at parents and carers for adhering to the guidance to keep children at home, which he states has been a key factor in allowing schools in Oxfordshire to open to a wider group of children.
He then lists four safety methods he hopes parents will continue to adopt, being:
- stay at home as much as possible;
- limit contact with other people;
- keep your distance if you go out (2 metres apart where possible); and
- wash your hands regularly.
In addition, Mr Azhar notes that whilst some social distancing measures have been relaxed, “traditional child activities, such as sleepovers should be avoided.” He also notes, “It is important that people should avoid sharing a private vehicle with members of another household” and that everyone should, “consider walking, cycling or using your own vehicle if you can.”
If you do have to travel with people outside of your household, the following safety measures are to be used, where possible:
- Consider seating arrangements to optimise distance between people in the vehicle.
- Be aware of the surfaces that you or others touch.
- Consider good ventilation (keeping the car windows open) and facing away from each
other or wearing face coverings may help to reduce the risk of transmission.
- You should clean the vehicle between journeys using gloves and standard cleaning products. Make sure you clean door handles, steering wheel and other areas that people may touch.
