Peterborough police search for hit and run driver after crash with road sweeper

Police in Peterborough are searching for the driver of a Mercedes after a collision with a road sweeper vehicle, earlier this morning.

Officers were called to the scene of a collision in Peterborough city centre at around 9am.

A grey Mercedes collided with a road sweeper on Wellington Street in Eastgate.

According to police, the driver fled from the scene on foot.

They are currently searching for the driver and are asking the general public to get in touch if they have any information.

A police spokeswoman said:

“We were called at just after 9am today (19th June) to reports of a collision on Wellington Street, Eastgate, Peterborough.

“The collision involved a grey Mercedes and a road sweeper vehicle. The driver of the Mercedes fled the scene on foot before officers arrived.”
