New Lincoln bypass delayed
The opening of the long-awaited Lincoln Eastern Bypass has been delayed.
The scheme, valued at £72m, was due to be complete by now, but Lincolnshire County Council have stated that it won’t be ready until the end of the year.
Unfortunately, the project has been blighted by delays, including the collapse of the construction firm Carillion, and the coronavirus crisis.
The 7.5km road has been designed to minimise traffic congestion around the historic city of Lincoln.
It will link the A158 Wragby Road roundabout to the A15 at Bracebridge Heath, creating a ring road for the city.
It will also include four new roundabouts.
The project aims to improve Lincoln’s infrastructure, encourage growth, minimise traffic congestion and enhance the inter-city environment, the Council have said.
Councillor Richard Davies, who’s in charge of highways for Lincolnshire County Council, said:
“It will open this year and while it’s disappointing this is a road project which has been fraught with problems.
“The wait will be more than worth it.”
