A new gaming arcade with cult classics and modern favourites is set to open in Scunthorpe this weekend.

It will be will be Scunthorpe’s first eSports centre.

The arcade opens on Saturday, when in accordance with coronavirus guidelines, the hospitality sector is permitted to begin reopening.

Visitors will be able to use the arcades air hockey tables, pool tables, 10 state-of-the-art eSports gaming PCs and a massive 140-inch screen showing live streams.

The Arcade Warehouse has been a several-month work-in-progress built by partners Caton Airey and Dan Rees from their technology company PCSCuk Support on Mannaberg Way.

Caton said:

“It’s really got something for gamers of all ages. There are older machines like the Atari and PlayStation 1s, and newer Virtual Reality set-ups and gaming PCs.

“Retro games have really come back into fashion lately. People love to play the cult classics that were ahead of their time.

“It has been quite difficult to find some of the collectors’ items, but we’ve got a great range including favourites like the original Star Wars trilogy arcade machine, the Sega Rally games and the original Tron.

“It’s fantastic to see these 30-year-old machines powered up and people have fun on them again.

“We’ve even got traditional manual games, and 65 inch touch screens for younger children to play games on.

“eSports are now absolutely huge – it has had such a huge rise in popularity over the last few years and I think the quality of gaming is a big reason why.

“But some of the games are very expensive. Here, you can come and pay very little to play these games and experience all the latest technology.”

The pair say that they hope to provide Scunthorpe families and younger people an affordable day out seven days a week without needing to leave the town.
