Pedestrian dies following train collision
A pedestrian has tragically died following a train collision at Little London level crossing, between Immingham and Stallingborough this morning.
A Grimsby-bound train was forced to perform an emergency stop near at around 10am following the incident.
Emergency services attended, including East Midlands Ambulance Service, British Transport Police, Humberside Police and Network Rail.
A spokesperson for the British Transport Police confirmed that an unidentified person died on the track.
They said:
“British Transport Police were called at 10.05am to an area of railway in Stallingborough following a report of casualty on the tracks.
“Officers attended but sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a report will be prepared for the coroner.”
The road was closed for over an hour.
Rail services to and from Grimsby were also disrupted.
It is thought that the pedestrian had gone onto the track a short distance from the level crossing.
Sadly, they then came into contact with a Manchester to Cleethorpes train.
Rob Foster, Route Level Crossing Manager for Network Rail, said:
“A train driver made an emergency call just after 10am this morning after a person was struck by a train in Stallingborough, on the Manchester to Cleethorpes line.
“Lines between Cleethorpes station and Haborough station were closed for around one hour whilst emergency services dealt with the incident and safety inspections were carried out.
“Safety is our main priority, and the barriers were held in the down position at Stallingborough level crossing. Steps were taken to minimise disruption and we would like to apologise for any inconvenience.
“Our thoughts go out to the family of the person involved. Lines have reopened but some delays are expected for the next few hours.”
