Closures scheduled on M181

The M181 will be closed for around four weeks for resurfacing, it has been announced.

As of next week, overnight closures will be in place as essential resurfacing work takes place.

Highways England say they will be replacing the aging surface on the northbound carriageway.

A spokesperson added that the improvements will make the road safer and more reliable for road users.

Both sliproads of the M180 Junction 3 will also be closed with diversions in place for motorists.

Last month, there were a series of closures and disruptions on the M18 due to ‘urgent resurfacing works’.

According to Highways England, the carriageway surface is deteriorating.

North Lincolnshire Council are also planning to create a new M181 junction, which aims to open up the Lincolnshire Lakes housing development near Scunthorpe.

It is hoped that the roadworks will make the area more accessible for local users and businesses.

Highways England programme manager Mark Ramsden said:

“The wide range of improvements over the next 12 months will make the roads safer and smoother, providing drivers with more reliable journeys, and support economic growth in the area.”

Work will begin for four weeks on Monday, July 13.

The northbound road will closed nightly between 8pm and 6am.

Further works are also planned for September and October.
