New bus lanes in Doncaster
New bus lanes have been installed in Doncaster, and drivers caught using them are set to be stung with cash fines.
Doncaster Council have announced that they will be installed on Bennetthorpe, York Road and Booth Avenue near Doncaster Dome.
In a statement on Facebook, a spokesman for the Council said:
“A reminder for motorists.
“So far we’ve let people off with a warning, however a £60 fine will come into effect soon.
“We don’t want you to get caught and fined for using the bus gate, so please take the correct routes rather than take a short cut along dedicated bus gates and lanes.
“The bus lanes are clearly marked and designed to improve bus travel, support emergency services, taxis and cyclists and most importantly improve road safety.”
The scheme was rolled out in September 2018 and restrictions apply 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Automatic number plate recognition fixed cameras are in place on North Bridge Road, Waterdale, Cleveland Street, Bennetthorpe, Booth Avenue and York Road.
Vehicles permitted to use bus lanes include bicycles, any bus or vehicle with seats to carry eight people excluding the driver, liveried emergency service vehicles, and Hackney carriage or licensed private hire vehicles.
