Damage to Cleethorpes beach safety equipment

Equipment installed by the Cleethorpes Beach Safety team has already been damaged, just three days after it was installed.

This week, the beach safety team have had new throw bags installed along the promenade.

Due to previous incidents of theft and vandalism, the team also installed CCTV and emphasised that to interfere with this equipment is a criminal offence under the criminal damage act 1971.

They stated that any person found tampering with this equipment may receive a fine of up to £5000, or face imprisonment.

Today, a spokesperson for Cleethorpes Beach Safety issued a disappointing update via Facebook.

They said:

“We are extremely disappointed.”

“The throw bags have been installed for 3 days, one has been vandalised and 2 have been stolen.

“This LIFE-SAVING EQUIPMENT is there in case of an emergency!!

“It could be your family member or even yourself that needs saving and the equipment may not be there if it carries on being stolen!”

This comes just a week after 14 people had to be rescued off Cleethorpes beach after they became stranded due to rising tides.
