Hull Councillor charged with sexual assault
City Councillor John Abbott has been charged with sexual assault.
Mr Abbot, 61, of Pearson Avenue in Hull, is accused of the offence on 19 April 2019.
Humberside Police have confirmed that John Abbott is due appear at Hull Magistrates’ Court on 8 August.
Hull City Council’s website shows Mr Abbott as a member of the Conservative group.
But it is understood that last year he was suspended from the party to now sit as a councillor without a current political affiliation.
He was also suspended from the Conservative group at the Guildhall due to being under police investigation.
However, he was elected in May 2010, and reelected last year and has continued to serve the Bricknell ward.
In 2019, a Conservative party spokesman said:
“Mr Abbott has been suspended from the party.”
A Humberside Police spokesperson added:
“Following an incident on Wednesday, April 3, 2019, John Abbott, 61, of Pearson Avenue, Hull, has been charged with sexual assault and is due to appear in Hull Magistrates’ Court on Saturday 8 August.”
