Lottery boost for Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre

Grimsby Fishing Heritage Centre has received £10,000 National Lottery cash to improve digital access to the museum’s collections.

The Great Grimsby Ice Factory Trust (GGIFT) also secured £10,000 from the same Digital Confidence Fund to develop a digital presence for the Kasbah area on Grimsby Docks.

Supported by a National Lottery Heritage Fund mentor, the Fishing Heritage Centre project will transform the visitor experience by improving digital access to the museum collections, with a particular focus on the historic Grimsby trawler Ross Tiger.

New digital technologies will allow those who are unable to visit the museum in person the opportunity to experience Grimsby’s fishing heritage in exciting and innovative ways.

Councillor Callum Procter, portfolio holder for tourism, heritage and culture at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “We’re delighted to be able to increase interaction with this special attraction and story through an increased digital presence. This should be an exciting project and we’re very thankful to National Lottery players and The Fund.”

The centre was also recently awarded £17,000 from Arts Council England to develop a series of loan boxes designed around the themes of the museum. The two projects will ensure that more people can access and enjoy stories about Grimsby heritage, even with the restrictions COVID-19 brings.
