Fatal traffic accident in Bicester

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses to a fatal collision on a notoriously ‘unsafe’ roundabout in Bicester.

This roundabout has been the location for many other fatal accidents and has been described by local people, traffic groups and councillors as unsafe.  Back in May, Council announced that they would be extending the 40mph speed limit on the roundabout approach by 240 metres and introducing a 50mph speed limit for around 670 metres in advance of that.

Despite changes, Police report that a fatal motor vehicle collision occurred on the A41 at the Bicester Park and Ride roundabout on Thursday (16 July 2020) at around 10.10pm.

A red Mercedes was travelling northbound, towards Bicester, when it was in collision with the roundabout.  There were no other vehicles involved in the accident.

Sadly, the driver of the Mercedes, a man in his sixties, died at the scene.  The passenger of the vehicle, a man in his fifties, sustained serious injuries and is currently in a critical condition in hospital.

Investigating officer PC Sandra Terry of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit based at Bicester Howes Lane, said:

“Firstly our thoughts go out to the family of the man who has sadly died and the man who was injured in this incident. This was a single vehicle collision and we would like to speak to anyone who may have seen this incident happen. If you saw this vehicle prior to the collision that would be very useful for the investigation.”

Police are asking for everyone who was in the area to check their dash-cam footage to see if there is any footage that can assist them in their investigation.

If you would like to make a report, please contact the non-emergency number 101 or make a report online using the reference number 43200218195.
