Humberside Police have issued an update after both Albion Street and Eleanor Street in Grimsby were at the centre of an incident last night.

The incident is understood to have began on Albion Street, where there had been reports of a man with a machete.

There was a heavy police presence, with a number of vehicles on scene and a police aircraft circling the area.

Eyewitnesses reported seeing a gang of young people attack police officers.

On Eleanor Street, officers joined by the dog section where they searched the area around the Salvation Army Hostel.

Nobody is thought to have been arrested at the time.

But today, Humberside Police released an update, confirming the details of the incident.

Two 17-year-old boys have been arrested.

Neither have been named.

One was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, and in relation to drugs charges.

The second boy was also arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and affray.

A spokesperson for the force said:

“Two teenage boys have been arrested following reports that a man was threatened by a man allegedly carrying a weapon in the Eleanor Street area of Grimsby yesterday evening, Monday 20 July. 

“We were called with reports that the man had been threatened shortly after 7.20pm. Officers attended and carried out a search of the area and two teenage boys were arrested and a firearm was recovered nearby. 

“A 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm, possession of class A drugs with intent to supply and possession of class B drugs with intent to supply.

“A second 17-year-old boy was arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm and affray. Both remain in our custody at this time whilst enquiries continue.

“Investigations are underway and we ask anyone with any information to call our non-emergency 101 line quoting log 527 of Monday 20 July.

“Alternatively you can call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
