A prolific Grimsby offender has been jailed for 1000 days after she pleaded guilty of burglary and shop theft, Humberside Police have reported.

Claire Wilson, 46, of Frederick Street, Grimsby was handed the sentence this Monday, 20 July.

Grimsby Crown Court heard how she had entered a flat on Cleethorpe Road on Sunday 2 February 2020 and stolen items from inside.

She even continued to search the property when disturbed by the residents who asked her to leave.

She then attended a local shop where she attempted to steal a sandwich.

When challenged by a member of staff Wilson used aggressive racist remarks towards him before leaving.

Upon entering a second shop Wilson attempted to steal further food items.

She was subsequently arrested and brought into police custody.

Detective Inspector Tom Kelly of Humberside Police said:

“Wilson is a prolific offender with hundreds of previous convictions and I welcome the sentence handed to her today.

“I cannot underestimate the impact that burglaries have on the victim, having a stranger inside your home is undoubtedly a distressing experience and for this to then be added to by the offender refusing to leave is simply despicable.

“We do everything we can to gather all of the evidence available to us, helping us to put offenders before the courts and secure sentences, like this one.

“I hope it serves as a stark warning to anyone considering committing offences of this nature.

“You will not get away with it.”
