Air rifle used on Donnington playing fields

Thames Valley Police is appealing for witnesses following a firearm incident which occurred in Oxford.

At approximately 3.40pm on Tuesday 21 July 2020, four men and a woman drove up to the Donnington playing fields, entered the area and aimed an air rifle towards another group of men.

The rifle was discharged, before the group re-entered their car and rode off.

It is not thought that anyone was hurt during this incident, although Police are appealing for the men who were shot at to come forward to provide further information.

Investigating officer, DC Rosie Campbell, of Oxford Police Station, said:

“I am appealing for witnesses to this incident, as well as the group that the air rifle was fired towards to come forward and speak to us.  We would like to reassure the public that this incident is being investigated, and arrests have been made in connection with it. No one was hurt during the incident.”

At the time of writing, five people have been arrested in relation to this incident.

  1. A 25-year-old man from Bicester, and a 20-year-old man of no fixed abode have both been arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence, and possessing an imitation firearm with intent to cause fear or violence. They have been bailed until 17 August.
  2. A 22-year-old man from Chester, Flintshire has been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence. He has been bailed until 17 August.
  3. A 32-year-old woman and a 35-year-old man both of no fixed abode have both been arrested on suspicion of possession a firearm with intent to cause fear or violence. Both have been bailed until 18 August.
