South Yorkshire Police have seized two cars in Doncaster following a huge ‘car cruise’ and drag racing meet between B&Q and Tesco at the Woodfield Plantation.

Hundreds of spectators are said to have attended the event on Saturday night.

Officers were called at around 10pm.

They visited the scene and dispersed the crowd, who subsequently relocated to the Kirk Sandall Industrial Estate where they were dispersed once more.

Two cars were seized on the spot.

Eight warning notices and 19 traffic reports were also issued.

One for driving without insurance, two for driving without due care and attention, nine for window tints and seven for incorrect registration plates.

Roads Policing Sergeant Matthew Duffy said:

“This was a significant and pre-planned event which caused severe disruption to local residents.

“We are aware that there are numerous static events across the county on a regular basis, which are attended by well behaved car owners, but incidents like the one last night not only cause disruption to the roads and residents, they are simply dangerous.

“Hopefully our swift action last night sends out a clear message that this sort of activity will not be tolerated.”
