North East Lincolnshire eateries flock to join discount scheme
A large number of bars, restaurants and cafes across North East Lincolnshire have signed up to a government scheme that can slash the bill for eating out by a half from next week.
Chancellor Rishi Sunak announced the ‘Eat Out to Help Out’ plan which is designed to encourage people to safely return to dining out in the wake of coronavirus.
The list of participating restaurants was delayed, however has now been published.
The scheme kicks off on Monday (August 3) and operates every Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday until August 31.
A quick search of those businesses within five miles of Grimsby Town Hall’s postcode that are taking part found 86 results, with more set to follow, including: Riverhead Coffee, Victoria Fish and Chips, Caspers, Victoria Grill and The Barge Inn, all in Victoria Street.
Also on the list were: Abbys Bistro, The Curious Cat, Millfields Hotel and Lids Tapas and Cocktails.
Cleethorpes premises included the promenade’s Punchbowl and Laceys, as well as Steel’s Cornerhouse Restaurant, Browns Cafe and Figs, plus many more.
Chain restaurants that are registered include: Burger King, Caffe Nero, Costa Coffee, JD Wetherspoon, KFC, Pizza Hut, Starbucks and McDonald’s.
The public can check if their own favourite is on the list – or businesses can still register – at a special government Eat Out to Help Out web page.
Customers will get 50% off food and non-alcoholic drinks up to a total value of £10 per person if they eat or drink in.
The discount applies as many times as you like on those three days throughout the month.
You don’t need a voucher to use the scheme as businesses will put the discount on the bill and you can use it at the same time as other offers.
There is no minimum spend.
Alcoholic drinks and service charges are excluded from the offer.
Businesses will receive a window sticker to show they are using the scheme.
