By Coronavirus advice issued to landlords
Coronavirus guidance has been issued to landlords and letting agents in North East Lincolnshire.
Officers from North East Lincolnshire Council have contacted landlords of Houses of Multiple Occupation (HMO) to issue guidance to prevent Covid-19 outbreaks on their properties.
The guidance, which has been compiled by the Council’s Public Health team, explains what landlords, letting agents and property managers should do if they suspect a tenant has Covid-19.
The document also sets out how they can reduce the risk of the virus being spread within a property.
North East Lincolnshire has seen among the lowest confirmed cases of the virus in the country.
The guidance includes tips to reduce the risk of the virus spreading in houses of multiple occupancy, such as arranging for shared spaces like kitchens, bathrooms and corridors to be cleaned regularly, and making information and advice available to tenants.
Councillor John Fenty, deputy leader and portfolio holder for regeneration, skills and housing at North East Lincolnshire Council, said: “It’s quite simple – we have had some of the lowest numbers of cases of the virus in our area and we want to keep it that way.
“To do that, everyone needs to do their bit. That includes landlords of HMOs. If you own a house of multiple occupancy in our area, you have a responsibility to help reduce the risk to your tenants, and help manage any potential outbreak.
“By working with the council, taking on board the guidance, and letting Public Health know the second you suspect there might be a case in one of your properties, you can help us to stop the virus in its tracks.
“So please read the guidance that is on our website and work with us.”
