Ferry Leisure and Rose Hill Community Centre gyms will reopen on Monday 3 August
Whilst the North of England is back in lockdown, Oxford City Council has announced that it will be reopening two of its gyms next week.
Councillor Linda Smith, Cabinet Member for Leisure and Parks said
It’s great news that we are able to start bringing back some of our leisure facilities for public access this summer. Fusion Lifestyle have been working hard to get the Ferry Leisure Centre ready to re-open and back to providing a friendly and welcoming venue for people to exercise and invest in their health and wellbeing. The Rose Hill community centre gym is also a brilliant asset with a growing membership, I know local residents will be pleased to see its doors open again.
The gyms will be operating on a limited basis to start with and within the government’s safety guidance, so users will need to pay attention to the new rules. Users may initially have to travel a little further to access our leisure services while other centres remain closed and I would like to ask people to bear with us and to be assured that we know the value of our leisure facilities to local communities and are putting our efforts into working with Fusion Lifestyle to devise an affordable plan for their phased return.
Ferry Leisure Centre, run by Fusion Lifestyle, will reopen its doors to members for both gym use and for group exercise sessions.
The gym at Rose Hill is run by the Council’s community centre and offers state-of-the-art equipment to its users.
The Ferry Leisure swimming pool will remain closed until further notice while assessments with Fusion are ongoing around the possibility of reopening other facilities, with hygiene and safety being of paramount importance, and the financial impact also a consideration.
The news follows the announcement that Hinksey Outdoor Pool will reopen from 8 August.
