Action to tackle East Marsh crime

Humberside Police have announced that they will be taking intensive action to tackle crime in the East Marsh area of Grimsby.

This will include increased numbers of officers and patrols on the streets.

Officers will be aiming to proactively tackle crime and antisocial behaviour and work with partner agencies to provide support and care for vulnerable residents.

So far, Operation Galaxy has had a significant impact on reducing crime levels and taking drugs, weapons and offenders off the streets across the whole of North East Lincolnshire.

It is hoped that this targeted work will further reduce crime, particularly violent and drug related crimes, in the East Marsh area.

Grimsby East Neighbourhood Policing Inspector Dave Stephenson, said:

“Over the coming weeks, you will see me and my team undertaking targeted patrols around the East Marsh, focussing on areas we know to be hot spots for antisocial behaviour and crime.

“We’ll be conducting intelligence led stops in conjunction with our Roads Crime Team, safeguarding vulnerable people at risk of becoming victims to offences such as ‘cuckooing’, targeting the highest harm outstanding suspects and carrying out further enforcement activity such as warrants to tackle criminality head on.

“Partner agencies such as the local authority, housing association and fire service are working with us to identify areas to target, address underlying vulnerability and provide wrap around support to those affected by the activity, whichever way that may be.

“Working with partners also means that we can put plans in place to sustain these lower levels of criminality and risk, whilst increasing community resilience and safety.

“It’s important that people within the community know they can rely on their local agencies and which one is the most suited to help them with their individual needs.

“In order to tackle the problems that are affecting you most, we need your help. We are asking anyone that is a resident of the East Marsh with issues causing concern to get in touch and tell us so we can take positive action.

“But I appreciate that anonymity is important for some. That’s why I would also recommend Crimestoppers as a way to report crime, as their service is completely independent and anonymous. You can contact them on 0800 555 111.

“Whichever way you get in touch, we will listen and rest assured we will be working behind the scenes as well as being out and about on the streets and door knocking to chat to you, to ensure we do all we can to make your community and safe and enjoyable place to live.”
