Spate of criminal damage and arson incidents

South Yorkshire Police have issued a public appeal following a series of incidents of criminal damage.

Officers in Doncaster are seeking information.

The incidents occurred at various properties in the Royal Estate area of Edlington.

It is reported that between Thursday 23 July and Monday 27 July, the windows of two properties on Roberts Road and two properties on Tait Avenue and Violet Avenue were smashed.

Then, on Monday 27 July it is reported that an address on Bungalow Road suffered damage to its window in an incident of arson.

On Wednesday 29 July, the windows of a further property on Granby Road were smashed.

The door of the property was damaged in an incident of alleged arson.

Eight arrests have been made.

Three men aged 24, 22 and 26 and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of serious assault.

They have been bailed for further investigation.

Then, three men aged 20, 28 and 26 and a 16-year-old boy were arrested on suspicion of criminal damage and conspiracy to commit criminal damage.

They have also been bailed for further investigation.

Inspector Richard Mangham said:

“Fortunately, no one has been injured but these incidents had the potential for tragic consequences.

“Officers from our Doncaster West Neighbourhood Team, Operation Fortify and Serious Organised Crime teams have been working in conjunction to patrol the area and provide reassurance to the local community.

“Increased patrols will continue over the following days as our enquiries continue at pace.

“We would ask the community of Edlington to support these efforts and come forward with any information they have in relation to these incidents.

“Were you in the area at the time? Did you see what happened? Do you know who might have been involved?

“If you can help, please call 101 quoting incident number 603 of 31/07/2020.”
