Watford’s mayor has said he ‘cannot wait’ for the Oxhey Activity Park to open next month after being given a ‘sneak peak’ of the facilities.

Located in Oxhey Park on land north of the River Colne, the new facility will bring together a range of activities for young people including skate boarding, BMX, cycling and scooting, catering for all skill levels from beginners right up to serious enthusiasts.

A spokesperson for Watford Borough Council, who are behind the development, said: “We’re so excited to open Oxhey Activity Park next month. The skate park will be the UK’s first and certainly most dedicated family experience in the skating ride world. It’s unique in that the facility has three different areas for all ages and abilities.

“The fun doesn’t stop there though. We have the incredible new play area with accessible equipment, Tasty Bean café, plantation of beautiful shrubs and wildflower meadows and lastly the new bike skills trail and footpaths winding through the park.”

Mayor Peter Taylor said: “It was great to get a sneak peak of the new facilities we are delivering at Oxhey Activity Park.

“This period has shown just how important our parks and green spaces are to people in our town and these new state of the art facilites have something for everyone.

“I am pleased to keep one of the key promises I made when I was elected two years ago and can’t wait to see these facilities open next month.”

Construction work on Oxhey Activity Park, which has been planned for some years, was temporarily halted on April 3 due to both the shortage of materials necessary to continue the work and the availability of workers – both a result of the coronavirus pandemic. However the main contractor, Borras Construction Ltd, was able to resume construction in May and is on track to complete the project in September.
