Image of ATM robber released by police
Earlier this week, Lee Whitehouse, 32, of Broughton Avenue, Doncaster, was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court.
He received a sentence of two years after admitting to robbing a woman at a cash machine and making off from a petrol station without paying.
Now, South Yorkshire Police have released the following photograph of the offender.
Sheffield Crown Court heard that Whitehouse snatched the cash from a woman at a supermarket in Doncaster as her three children stood nearby.
At sentencing on August 3, Andrew Smith, prosecuting, told the hearing how the woman had gone to the nearby cash machine, leaving her children at the trolley park.
The defendant then barged into her and forced the money from her hand, telling her “you are not having that”.
He fled the scene in a VW Passatt being driven by an unidentified accomplice after the offence which took place at around 2.45pm, on May 18.
Whitehouse pleaded guilty to robbery, and to an additional charge of making off without paying for fuel at a petrol station two days earlier.
Judge Jeremy Richardson QC told Whitehouse:
“The most serious aspect – apart from the robbery being serious in itself – was the fact the children were watching their mother being robbed.”
He has now been sentenced to two years in custody.
He had only recently been released from prison in connection with another offence.
