Woman suffers serious hand injury in Swindon attack

A woman suffered a serious hand injury in an assault in Swindon last night (Sunday).

Wiltshire Police were called by the ambulance service shortly after 10.30pm due to an injured woman at an address in Shalbourne Close, Penhill.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, had suffered a potentially life-changing injury to her hand and was taken to Southmead Hospital in Bristol. Her condition was said to be stable.

Officers have been at the scene overnight carrying out detailed enquiries.

Detective Inspector Paul Hacker, from Swindon CID, said: “Our initial enquiries suggest that the victim was sitting outside her property when she was approached by a man who assaulted her and caused serious injuries to her hand.

“We believe these injuries were caused by some sort of blade.

“At this stage, we do not believe it was a random attack, so are carrying out detailed enquiries to understand a possible motive.

“We would urge anyone with information, including anyone who may have dash cam footage or private CCTV footage, to contact us immediately.”

No arrests have been made.

Anyone who can help should call Wiltshire Police on 101, quoting crime reference 54200079266. Alternatively you can call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
