By Young footballers in new kind of cup
Watford Academy have their sights set on new cup.
They have joined football academies across the UK who are taking part in a cup of a different kind this summer in response to Covid-19.
Launched by online learning provider YourFavouriteTeacher, young players are being encouraged to catch up on their academic studies over the summer holidays.
Aimed primarily at players moving into the U16s next season, the cup aims to help re-establish positive routines around learning and prepare young players for their GCSEs.
Martin Prickett, Academy Head of Education at Watford FC, said: “The Your Favourite Teacher ‘Catch Up Cup’ is a fantastic tournament to get our young players in the right frame of mind for their return to school in September.
“Combining the competitive nature of our young players with curriculum competitions will get our boys working a mental sweat – we can’t wait to get started!”
Kate Meeks, founder of YourFavouriteTeacher, added: “With sixteen clubs across the country joining in this cup it really is fantastic to see so many young players engaged with their learning.”
Founded in 2018, YourFavouriteTeacher is an online GCSE Learning platform used by schools and football academies across the UK.
