Grimsby Kasbah tour and more goes online

Modern day technology will bring Grimsby and Cleethorpes’ historic past to life during the 2020 Heritage Open Days Festival.

Last year, physical tours of The Kasbah on Grimsby Docks and the old Empire Theatre in Cleethorpes, organised as part of the annual event, were extremely popular – selling out within days of being publicised.

This year, due to the continued Covid-19 health and safety considerations, the tours are being taken online with three free digital events.

With demand again expected to be high, pre-booking to the following is required:

  • A Traditional Day at the Seaside in Cleethorpes: this is a virtual tour that delves back into the resort’s history, bringing the past to life with the help of some artistic performances. The event, which will be accessible on most PCs, laptops and smart phones, will take place all day on Saturday, September 12. For further information, email Thenquiries@nelincs.gov.uk
  • There will be virtual tours and online activities that focus on Grimsby Docks’ historic Kasbah on Saturday, September 19 from 10am until 4pm. Pre-booking is essential, with participants enjoying a special eye-spy Kasbah tour and a virtual visit to a traditional smokehouse to learn about Grimsby’s unique smoking process. Participants can also challenge themselves with a Kasbah crossword, and enter a competition to build a smokehouse. Across North East Lincolnshire, events are also taking place at St Nicolas’ Church, Great Coates and at Immingham Museum and Heritage Centre, with scores of other activities across the wider county as part of the festival, which runs from September 11 to 20.
