Three arrested in Sedgley murder investigation
Three men have been arrested overnight on suspicion of involvement in a violent street incident in Sedgley that left a man dead.
Two men aged 22 and 24 were arrested from an address in Lower Gornal at 12.45am and a third, aged 25, detained at another location in Lower Gornal less than an hour later.
All three have been arrested on suspicion of murdering Reece Cox, who was on a night out on Saturday.
A tribute released on behalf of Mr Cox’s family read: “Reece was a great son, partner and dad; a gentle giant who was loved by everybody. We plead with anybody who knows who or where the offenders are to do the right thing and contact the police straight away.”
Detective Inspector Laura Harrison from the West Midlands Police Homicide Unit, said: “Clearly this is a significant development but we continue to work around the clock to arrest everyone we suspect played a part.
“We believe others were involved and I would urge them to get in touch so we can discuss what happened.
“We know who these suspects are and they are not doing themselves any favours by refusing to co-operate. We will catch up with them so I would urge them to hand themselves in for questioning.
“Anyone found helping these men, providing them with accommodation, giving them money or helping them move around, is committing a very serious offence.”
Mr Cox was in Bull Ring just before midnight on Saturday when it is understood he stepped in to protect another man who was being assaulted.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
Dudley Police Borough Commander, Superintendent Jason Anderson, said: “A young man has tragically lost his life. An entire community has been affected by this shocking incident and we urge those responsible to do the right thing and hand themselves in.
“Local officers continue to support the community and we thank them for the information they have already provided.”
