A fourth man has been arrested on suspicion of being involved in a violent street incident that led to the death of Dudley dad Reece Cox.
The 22-year-old was detained at his home address in the Pensnett area at 11.15am yesterday (Tuesday).
It followed the arrest of three other men in the early hours of the same morning.
Men aged 22 and 24 were arrested from an address in Lower Gornal at 12.45am and a third aged 25 detained at another location in Lower Gornal less than an hour later.
All four are in police custody for questioning on suspicion of murdering Mr Cox who was on a night out in Sedgley on Saturday when the incident happened.
Detective Inspector Laura Harrison, from West Midlands Police Homicide Unit, said: “We’re making swift progress and we continue to work around the clock to get everyone we believe played a part.”
Mr Cox (24) was in Bull Ring just before midnight on Saturday when it’s understood he stepped in to protect another man who was being assaulted.
Despite the efforts of paramedics, he was pronounced dead at the scene.
A tribute released on behalf of Mr Cox’s family read: “Reece was a great son, partner and dad; a gentle giant who was loved by everybody. We plead with anybody who knows who or where the offenders are to do the right thing and contact the police straight away.”
Dudley Police Borough Commander, Superintendent Jason Anderson, said: “A young man has tragically lost his life. An entire community has been affected by this shocking incident and we urge those involved to do the right thing and hand themselves in.
“Local officers continue to support the community and we thank them for the information they have already provided.”
