Due to the impact of the coronavirus crisis on social distancing restrictions, the Waltham Windmill is set to remain closed until 2021.

This is because the scale and layout of the attraction makes social distancing too complex to maintain.

Via their Facebook page, the Waltham Windmill Trust have announced that neither the Waltham Windmill nor the Museum of Rural Life will be opening again this year.

Following the forced closure early this year, it had been hoped that it would reopen parts of the site to the public in August:

But on Sunday, a spokesperson issued an update which said:

Locals have responded expressing their disappointment.

The mill, which was built between 1878 and 1880, is usually open between March and September, but has remained shut for the entire season this year.

It had originally been due to open on March 29:

It is one of just three listed windmills in England.

Several other businesses on the same site have already reopened.

But sadly, due to the ongoing pandemic, neither Waltham Windmill nor the Museum of Rural Life are expected to open until Spring 2021.
