New bungalows prove a hit with Swindon buyers
Buyers are snapping up new adaptable bungalows built by Swindon Council’s housing company.
The new two-bedroom properties in Pilgrim Close, Shaw, were built as part of the authority’s commercial house building programme, which seeks to build new market properties for the residents of Swindon.
The 14 new adaptable bungalows have been designed to support residents with their independence and daily living requirements.
They have been developed to meet the changing needs of the occupants and to provide a more diverse mix of property types in Swindon.
Building work started on the 14 homes in April last year and was completed in May this year. More than half of the properties have been sold, with eight coming off the market already.
The bungalows contain adaptable en suite wet rooms, open plan living spaces, generous driveway parking, widened doorways, covered rear patio areas and automated features.
Councillor Russell Holland, Deputy Leader of Swindon Borough Council and Cabinet Member for Commercialisation, Education and Skills, said: “I am delighted to see these specialist bungalows being purchased by people who will make them their homes.
“This builds on the success of the Swindon Housing Company which to date has built 28 houses across three sites.
“The houses on Pilgrim Close contain special features to allow people to lead independent lives, while also having the capacity for extra equipment to be added if needed in the years ahead as people’s needs change.”
The profits from the scheme will go back to the council to help support services.
