Man jailed for cutting a police officer with a razor blade

A man who sliced a police officer’s hand with a razor blade has today been sentenced to three years imprisonment.

Lewis Frost, 26, of Horton Road, Horton, appeared at Swindon Crown Court today after an incident which occurred on 14 April 2020 whereby he injured a Police officer with a razor blade.

The report from Wiltshire Police explains that on 14 April 2020, ‘a mini bus carrying several members of Wiltshire Police control room staff was being driven between Wiltshire Police headquarters in Devizes to Gablecross police station in Swindon.

As the unmarked mini bus was being driven along the A4361 Beckhampton Road towards Avebury shortly after 10pm, Frost stepped into the road in front of the bus and signalled for it to stop, refusing to move out of the road.

Two of the members of staff, who are also members of our Special Constabulary, got out of the vehicle in an attempt to assist the man and resolve the situation but whilst doing so, the man attempted to step into the path of another vehicle, before running towards a blind bend.

The police staff gave chase and detained the man but in doing so, one of them was kicked to the face. Uniformed officers arrived on scene and whilst they were engaging with Frost, he pulled a razor blade from his pocket which he used to inflict an injury on himself.

When officers attempted to remove the blade to prevent Frost from causing further harm to himself, he used the blade to cause a deep laceration to the hand of one of the officers. This required multiple stitches in hospital.’

Today in Court, Frost plead guilty to several charges including ABH, two counts of assault on an emergency worker, failing to provide a specimen for analysis and breaching bail.

He also plead guilty to one count of robbery following an incident at Roundway Service Station in Devizes on December 21 during which he stole cash from the shop after threatening shop workers with a broken bottle.

Det Con Rachel Winter said:

“This was a nasty incident involving police officers and staff who did what they could to resolve the situation peacefully, however Frost had other ideas and during the melee, he used a razor blade to cause a wound to a police officer who then required hospital treatment which meant he was unable to complete his shift. Frost also caused injury to a member of police staff who was on his way to start a shift at the time. This incident happened during the height of lockdown – like many people, these staff were getting used to new working arrangements in order to still maintain the same level of public service offered by our control room, but in a safe manner, and this incident no doubt caused unnecessary distress and upset.”
