Man with baby slashed by masked robber

A man was slashed while protecting his baby daughter from a masked robber in Bournville.

The attacker confronted the victim and threatened to harm the 22-month-old baby, in Hawthorne Road on Monday.

The man, in his 30s, spotted a weapon in the would-be robber’s arms and stood over the pram to ensure the baby was safe.

He was then slashed across his back, but thankfully his injuries were not serious, said West Midlands Police.

The attacker fled the scene empty-handed and a knife was later discovered in the area.

Officers are examining CCTV and carrying out further enquiries to identify him.

They have stepped up patrols in the area and are asking anyone who may have seen or heard anything to get in touch urgently.

Detective Sergeant Marc Petford, from force CID, said: “This was a terrifying situation as the victim was left fearing for the safety of his daughter and himself. It’s important we identify this man as soon as possible.”
