Victim named in Doncaster murder investigation

South Yorkshire Police detectives investigating the murder of a 39-year-old Doncaster man have today named him as Leighton Owen.

Shortly after 11pm on Wednesday 26 August, police were called to a flat in Hatfield House, on Grove Place in the Balby area of Doncaster.

Upon arrival, the body of a 39-year-old man was found.

Three people, two women and a man, were present at the scene.

They were detained on suspicion of murder, according to South Yorkshire Police.

The two women, aged 45 and 40, and a 21-year-old man remain in police custody at this time, as investigations continue.

A police statement issued at the time said:

“An investigation has been launched following the discovery of a man’s body at an address in Balby, Doncaster.
“Officers attended the flat in Hatfield House, Grove Place shortly after 11pm last night and found the body of a 39-year-old man.
“Three people present at the scene were detained on suspicion of murder. Two women, aged 45 and 40, and a 21-year-old man, remain in police custody at this time.”
The victim at the centre of this murder investigation has now been named as Leighton Owen.

A post-mortem examination carried out proved inconclusive and further tests are underway to determine the exact cause of Mr Owen’s death.

Mr Owen’s family are receiving support from specially trained officers.

They have issued the following statement:

“Leighton was a kind loving person who will be sadly missed by his family and friends, he may be out of our lives but will always be in our hearts.

“He can sleep easy now he has been reunited with his Mum and Dad at long last.”

The three people who were arrested on suspicion of murder have all been released under investigation as enquiries continue.
