Coronavirus: the situation in Grimsby

Last week it was reported that two coronavirus positive patients were being treated at Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby.

There were three confirmed cases across the entire borough.

The two hospital patients are believed to have been the area’s first patients to be hospitalised in several weeks.

Now, a spokesperson for the trust has confirmed that there are no longer any patients being treated for the condition in the area’s hospitals.

North East Lincolnshire continues to hold the country’s lowest infection rate.

The last recorded deaths at hospitals covered by the Northern Lincolnshire and Goole NHS Foundation Trust were recorded in late June.

As children continue to return to school this week, school leaders and health chiefs at North East Lincolnshire Council have reassured parents that every effort is being made to ensure a safe return for their children.

Measures such as staggered start times and one-way systems have been put in place across local schools.

Councillor Ian Lindley said:

“It’s vitally important that children and young people don’t miss out on their education.

“We have had a very low number of cases in our area and we have been working with local schools to put measures in place to ensure that classrooms will be safe spaces for children.

“We all care deeply about our children and want them to get the best opportunities in life.

“Worrying for their safety in these uncertain times is nothing to be embarrassed about, but I want to reassure parents that we have done everything we can, working with schools, to ensure they will be safe.

“If parents want that extra level of reassurance and peace of mind, I would encourage them to get in touch with their child’s school to find out what exactly is being done to minimise the risk.”

Throughout the pandemic, North East Lincolnshire has seen 243 confirmed cases.

35 registered deaths have been attributed to the pandemic.
