Cleethorpes Beach Safety has reminded beach-goers of the impact of litter on wildlife after saving a distressed seagull.
The team was asked to help after a woman took in the bird, that was wrapped in fishing line with a hook caught in its mouth.
A spokesperson said yesterday (Saturday): “This morning a very helpful lady named Heather brought us a distressed seagull wrapped in fishing line with a hook caught in its mouth.
“Heather and our resort team managed to free the seagull from the line and painstakingly remove the barbed hook from its tongue.”
They added: “Please make sure that everything you bring to the beach with you also leaves with you. Litter pollution can be very harmful to our wildlife.”
Resort residents were quick to congratulate those involved for their actions on social media, with one saying: “Well done. How careless are these people!”
