Heritage Open Day in Cleethorpes

North East Lincolnshire Council are to launch two virtual tours of well known Victorian buildings in Cleethorpes as the resort celebrates the National 2020 Heritage Open Days Festival.

Much of the event will be online due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

However, there will also be physical talks to attend and family heritage activity bags to collect.

The resort day will take place on Saturday, September 12, with the national Festival running from September 11 to 20.

The schedule will feature virtual tours of the original 1904 Town Hall on Knoll Street and the Royal Air Forces Association Club on Alexandra Road.

There will also be events at Grimsby’s Fishing Heritage Centre.

Two talks are to be given at the Royal Air Forces Association Club.

These free half-hour presentations will be given by Gavin Marshall, the Chairman of the Grimsby, Cleethorpes and District branch of RAFA.

They are scheduled to take place at 11am and 1pm, and will chart the history of the building, the club, its development over the years and its renovation plans for the future as part of the Townscape Heritage Project.

Booking is essential as only 12 people will be able to attend each talk due to social distancing restrictions.

The events are being run by Our Big Picture Ltd in partnership with North East Lincolnshire Council with help from the resort’s Townscape Heritage Project.

Bookings can be made here.
