Warning issued after doorstop ‘intimidation’
Humberside Police have issued a warning after several residents in Cleethorpes were intimidated into handing over cash to strangers as part of a doorstop scam.
Callers have been going door-to-door, offering to do jobs before intimidating people into handing over more money than previously agreed.
Officers issued the warning regarding cases of doorstop intimidation via social media yesterday.
A spokesperson for the force said:
“Awareness in the Cleethorpes area regarding callers on your doorstep asking to do jobs, agreeing a price but then intimidating the person into handling over more money than the agreed price.
“Please check all credentials or business cards prior to this.”
One resident responded:
“We had an Irish sounding gentleman come knocking on our door asking if we wanted anything doing because he was getting a skip.
“Never seen this guy before and it did sound a bit suspicious, especially when he was surprised to see me come out of our front door to see what was going on between him and my dad.
“Never did see the skip.”
Another added:
“We had someone knock at ours three times, one particular man is still hanging around…”
Humberside Police have issued a warning urging residents to remain vigilant and report any cases of doorstop intimidation or other such suspicious behaviour via the non-emergency number 101.
