A dramatic police incident began near the junction of Ropery Street and Convamore Road in Grimsby last night, after witnesses saw a naked man fleeing a property, carrying a severed hand.

The incident resulted in the road being cordoned off by police.

Humberside Police officers were called to the scene after witnesses claimed to have seen a naked adult male jump from the window of a residential property and run across the street.

It triggered a major response, and a heavy police presence filled the area for much of the evening.

It is assumed that the man had his hand badly wounded, and was thought to be attempting to escape abductors, seeking refuge in a local shop.

The ground floor window of a terraced how was almost completely smashed in the escape.

Emergency medical staff also attended the scene.

Motorists were diverted while Scene of Crime officers investigated.

Paramedics treated the man on the scene before transferring him to hospital.

The current condition of the man is not yet known.
