Verge and footway parking enforcement to begin

New street exemptions and additional signage will also be installed to inform residents and visitors.

Councillor Stewart Swinburn, portfolio for environment and transport for North East Lincolnshire Council, said:

“We’ve engaged with local councillors and residents and they have highlighted concerns that vehicles parking on grass verges and footways is allowing these villages to lose their character and appeal.

“We’ve listened to their views, gone through the required legal TRO process with our regeneration partner, ENGIE, and I’m delighted we’ve been able to support these local communities with this request.

“Vehicles parking on grass verges causes unnecessary damage and increases our costs of maintaining the verges as an authority. I would ask all residents to be mindful when parking their cars and where possible, avoid parking on verges not covered by restrictions to support our effort in maintaining the area’s appearance.

“Those that continue to park on grass verges or footways in these villages will be fined.

“These measures also provide a number of safety improvements to the villages by removing obstructions for pedestrians when on the footway.”

Signs have been installed on entry and exit of the verge parking enforcement zones.

Those caught disobeying the restrictions face being issued with a fine by civil enforcement officers.
