Accident closes M180 near Scunthorpe

The M180 has been forced to close westbound near Scunthorpe following an accident in which two vehicles are said to have collided.

The incident happened between junctions two and three of the motorway at around 10am this morning.

Traffic is said to be beginning to flow again, but the incident has also caused delays on the M181 and the roads into Scunthorpe.

Two vehicles, a car and a van, were involved in the crash near the Belton Junction.

Emergency services and police traffic units attended the scene where they remain and are dealing with the accident.

There is still heavy congestion on the motorway and the surrounding areas.

Humberside Police have advised motorists to avoid the area and use alternative routes where possible.

A statement issued by the force reads:

 “Closures are in place on the westbound carriageway of the M180, near junction 2 at Belton, following a collision involving a car and a van shortly after 10am today, Fri 18 Sept.

“Emergency services are on the scene and motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.”

It is not yet known whether anybody has been injured in the crash.
