Three-vehicle collision causes further closures

This morning, the M180 was forced to close westbound near Scunthorpe following an accident in which three vehicles are said to have collided.

The incident was initially thought to involve one car and a van, but Highways England have now corrected this to two cars and a van.

The incident happened between junctions two and three of the motorway M180, causing delays on the M181 and the roads into Scunthorpe.

Now, Highways England have announced that the M181 in North Lincolnshire is also closed as a result.

The closure is impacting the northbound lanes between the M180 and the A18/A1077 near Scunthorpe.

Humberside Police and other emergency services are still in attendance.

Diversions are in place, and motorists are advised to avoid the area where possible.

A statement issued by Highways England reads:

“Road users are advised to follow the Hollow Square diversion signs from J2 of the M180.

“Driving east exit the M180 at J2, at the roundabout at the end of the slip road take the first exit onto the A161 and follow for approximately 1 mile to the roundabout with the A18.

“At the roundabout take the 4th exit onto the A18 and follow this road for approximately 6 miles to the junction with the M181 at Frodingham Grange roundabout.”

Road users are also advised to allow extra time for their journey.

The severity of the crash is not yet clear.

The incident is expected to clear with traffic returning to normal between 15:45 and 16:00pm today.
