Two schools hit by Covid-19

A Grimsby school has closed until next month after a case of coronavirus was confirmed.

Phoenix Park Academy has shut its Park House site until October 5 following the positive test.

This follows the news yesterday that Baysgarth School in Barton has also been affected by Covid-19.

Students at Park House are now expected to take part in virtual learning.

Phoenix Park is an alternative education academy, serving students from all of the mainstream schools in North East Lincolnshire, and Park House can cater for up to 48 students.

Phoenix Park Academy is a split site school, with some learners based in Harold Street in Grimsby at the Phoenix House site and others based at the Park House site which is adjacent to Park Avenue.

Phoenix House remains fully open.

A statement on the school’s website said: “Our Park House site will be closed until Monday 5th October 2020. All students are expected to engage in our virtual offer from Wednesday 23rd September until their return to school. For any queries, please either email office@phoenixpark.academy or call Phoenix House, which remains fully open, on 01472 351 412.

“We thank you for your support.”

At Baysgarth School a letter sent to parents and carers informed them there has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within the school and that there were a “small number of children” who have been in direct contact with the person affected, who have been contacted.

It informed them the school would be closed today (Wednesday) for a deep clean, and then a rota system would operate to get children back in.
