Pair accused of kidnap fail to attend court over Covid fears
A man and a woman charged with kidnap following an incident earlier this month have failed to appear in court due to fears that they have Covid-19.
Michael Kavanagh and Emma Thompson are facing charges relating to an incident on Convamore Road on September 12, after a naked man was seen escaping from the ground floor window of a residential property in Grimsby.
Emergency services were called to the scene after the front window of a house was smashed, and a man who was visibly injured was heard screaming from help.
He was treated by paramedics at the scene.
Kavanagh, 32, of Winchester Avenue and Thompson, 32, of James Street, Barnsley, were remanded to appear before Grimsby Magistrates Court yesterday.
Thompson is alleged to have exhibited symptoms of Covid-19, meaning that she was excused from court.
Instead, she appeared by video link from Birchin Way Custody Suite wearing a face mask.
Kavanagh was in custody in the court building, but was absent from the courtroom due to fears that he had also contracted Covid-19.
He was represented in his absence.
Both have now been denied bail, and will next appear at Grimsby Crown Court on Monday, October 26.
