Assault leaves Scunthorpe man in serious condition

Officers for Humberside Police have released CCTV footage and are appealing for witnesses following a serious assault on a local man.

The incident occurred on High Street, Scunthorpe, near to the HSBC Bank and Primark, between 3.30 and 3.45pm yesterday afternoon, Wednesday 30 September.

Emergency services were called to the scene, and the victim was taken to hospital.

Following the violent attack, the suspect is believed to have headed in the direction of Chapel Street by taking a side road next to Subway on High Street.

It is believed that the man pictured in the CCTV images, who was wearing a grey tracksuit, may be able to assist officers in their investigation.

Speaking yesterday, Detective Inspector Vicky Huyton said:

“We would appeal for any information that could help us to identify the man in the CCTV images, who was believed to have been in the area at the time of the incident, as we think he may be able to assist with our enquiries.

“I would like to offer reassurance to the public that this incident is believed to be isolated with no threat to the wider community. Patrols have been increased in the area if you wish to raise any concerns.

“If you believe you were a witness to the assault, or recognise the man in the images, we would ask you to contact us on our non-emergency number 101 quoting log 358 of today, 30 September.

“Alternatively, if you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”

Hundreds of well-wishers came forward to share and support the search via social media.

The suspect is yet to be identified, and the victim remains in hospital in a critical condition.

The assault is believed to be an isolated incident.
