Armed incident in Scunthorpe prompts major police response

An incident where a man was seen brandishing a machete prompted a major police incident in Manifold Road in Scunthorpe on Sunday evening.

Officers attended the scene following telephone reports of an armed man who had damaged the door of a residential property.

Witnesses have described what unfolded as a ‘large armed police presence.’

A male suspect was arrested on the scene. He has since been released without charge.

A spokesperson for Humberside Police said:

“We are investigating reports of a man being seen at a property off Manifold Road, Scunthorpe, with a weapon.

“We received a call at 5.15pm on Sunday, 4 October, reporting a man had gone into a property and damaged an external door before leaving.

“Officers carried out extensive searches of the area and arrested a 37-year-old man in connection with the enquiry, however, he has since been released without charge.”

Detective Inspector Tom Kelly added:

“At this stage we are working to establish the circumstances of the incident and would appeal for anyone with information to get in touch.

“No one has been reported to have suffered any injuries and we have not received any further reports of the man being seen in the area.”

Police have now launched an appeal for information and/or witnesses.

Officers have requested that anyone with information about the incident should call 101 quoting log number 465 of October 4.
