A police officer from Scunthorpe who was injured in the line of duty has been featured on the latest episode of the BBC show ‘Critical Incident’.

The show, which aired on Thursday morning, addressed patrol officer Charlotte Parkinson’s recovery from a serious injury, which occurred whilst responding to a domestic incident.

In 2018, officers were responding to a call from the mother of 26-year-old Nathan Davidson, who made a frightened report as a result of her sons drug abuse.

A violent altercation unfolded after Davidson refused to co-operate.

He is reported to have resisted arrest while spitting at and biting officers.

PC Parkinson was found to have suffered severe damage to her thumb. She required full reconstructive surgery.

Davidson was arrested and sentenced to 24 months in prison.

He admitted to two counts of ABH.

Discussing the incident and her recovery, PC Parkinson said:

“I’d literally just got my response ticket, I think it had been two weeks and then I had to have the operation so I was a bit devastated.

“I am a very caring person and that is what I go to work for, you don’t go to work for money you go for the love of the job.

“I can’t do my hobbies, I’m massively into sport, and my job, it is my passion, it is what I live for.

“The kids are off on their holidays and I can’t go swimming with them, I can’t do these little bits and bobs and it has affected the family.

“I want to get back to being fully fit, fighting crime and serving the public.

“The injury has affected my whole life, however, mentally I don’t think it has affected my massively because I’m a confident outgoing person.

“If I was put in that position again I don’t think I’d do anything differently, I might think twice before going in without backup though.

“I don’t think you do the job unless you are passionate about it and I want to do the full 30 years, I want to do as long as I can and be the best that I can.”

PC Parkinson was back on the beat within three months following a course of intensive treatment.

Critical Incident is now available to watch on BBC iplayer.
