Tesco to introduce new social distancing measures
Tesco has announced plans to introduce a number of new social distancing measures in an effort to combat the spread of coronavirus.
This news comes amid speculation of a second national lockdown as cases continue to rise.
Previously, Tesco had enforced measures such as a one-way system, but this was removed shortly after lockdown.
Shoppers are also required to wear face coverings, unless they are exempt.
The superstore is now expected to introduce new floor markings to guide customers, as well as a traffic-light system to monitor and control the flow of people entering and exiting their buildings.
Protective screens have already been installed at checkouts in many stores.
A renewed statement issued by the company reads:
“To make sure we’re doing everything possible to reduce the risk of infection for our customers and colleagues, we’ll be introducing new social distancing measures in our stores soon.
“In our larger stores, we now have colleagues at the entrances to help everyone follow the safety measures we have in place, and to answer any questions.
“Where necessary, we’ll limit the flow of people coming into our stores to make sure they don’t get too busy. So over the coming weeks, you’ll also start to see a simple ‘traffic light’ system at the entrances of some of our larger stores, to help us manage the flow in and out.
“Hand sanitiser and cleaning stations are available around our stores, and we continue to have social distancing guidelines and signage in place.
“When you visit our stores, please follow the legal guidance on wearing a face covering. If you forget to bring one, we have packs available to buy at the front of our stores, which you can open immediately and pay for with your shopping later.
“As a reminder, the police can issue fines for not wearing a face covering, unless you’re exempt.”
Tesco are also continuing to provide dedicated shopping times for vulnerable and elderly people, and for emergency workers.
