Cases escalate at Grimsby’s Young’s Seafood factories

Following a positive case of coronavirus at Young’s Seafood in Grimsby last month, the company have now confirmed a total of seven cases.

Although an undisclosed number of staff members are now in self-isolation, Young’s Seafood insists that measures are in place to curb the spread at it’s eight Grimsby facilities.

This includes the Humberstone Road site, where a female worker tested positive a fortnight ago.

The firm, which employs over 2000 people in Grimsby, added that the proportion of its workforce affected constitutes a “small number.”

A spokesperson said:

“Young’s employs 2,000 people across eight factories in Grimsby.

“We have identified seven confirmed cases within the past few weeks across our Grimsby facilities with most arising from family or community contact.

We have been in regular liaison with Public Health England and have acted swiftly to prevent transmission within our facilities.

“All employees identified as having close contact with the affected individuals have been sent home to self-isolate.

“We are continuing to follow government guidelines and doing everything possible to protect our people and the wider general public at this time.

“Like all food manufacturing businesses, we have strict hygiene controls in place across all of our sites. In addition, all our teams wear protective clothing and wash and sanitise their hands frequently throughout the day.”
